An elopement doesn't have to be just a ceremony and a few portraits. Alaska gives you room to build an entire day, or several, around the things you actually love doing together. Here are some of my favorite Alaska elopement activities to add into your day.

Chase a Little Adventure

If you're the kind of couple who feels most like yourselves outdoors, a hike is a beautiful way to add movement and adventure into your day. The trail up to Gold Cord Lake in Hatcher Pass is a great option, moderate enough to enjoy without wearing you out before the ceremony.

Once you're back down, a celebratory toast, a champagne spray, tequila shots, whatever feels like you, makes for some of the most joyful, candid photos of the whole day. It's a small addition, but it turns "we just got married" into a moment you actually get to celebrate together.

Build in Time to Rest

Not every part of your elopement needs to be high energy. If your day (or days) includes any downtime, an afternoon at Alyeska Nordic Spa in Girdwood is a wonderful way to slow things down. Soaking pools, quiet, and mountain views make it feel like a reset button.

This works especially well for multi-day elopements, tucked in between adventure days, or used afterward as the start of a honeymoon. Either way, it's a reminder that your elopement doesn't have to be nonstop.

Eat and Drink Like Locals

Alaska has no shortage of good food and better beer, and working it into your day adds a layer of real life to the story. 49th State Brewery and Bleeding Heart Brewery both make for a relaxed, celebratory dinner after a big day out.

If your elopement takes you through Whittier, fish and chips by the water is about as fitting an end to the day as it gets, especially if you're lucky enough to spot some wildlife while you eat.
