Here's a closer look at some of the locations I love most, and what a day at each one could actually look like.

Eklutna Lake and Knik Glacier

Eklutna Lake is calm, glacial-blue water framed by mountains, the kind of place that feels like a held breath before the rest of the day begins. It's a beautiful spot for a first look, quiet portraits, or even a small moment like cutting cake before the world wakes up.

From there, a short drive brings you to Outbound Heli Adventures, where you can lift off and land right on Knik Glacier. Saying your vows on the ice, sharing a first kiss, having a first dance with nothing but glacier and sky around you, it's about as far from an ordinary wedding day as you can get.

Hatcher Pass

Hatcher Pass is alpine terrain at its most dramatic: rolling tundra, jagged peaks, and rivers that cut straight through the valley. A first look at the Little Susitna River, with morning light hitting the water, is a quiet, intimate way to start the day here.

From the river, Summit Lake makes a stunning ceremony backdrop, mountains on every side and total stillness. Some couples add a hike up to Gold Cord Lake afterward, ending the climb with a "just eloped" sign, a champagne spray, and a little celebration before heading back down.

Whittier and the Coast

If you're drawn to the water more than the mountains, a day built around Whittier offers something different. Beluga Point is a striking first-look location, with waves rolling in and mountains rising straight out of the sea. From there, Virgin Creek Falls offers a short hike and a soft, misty backdrop for portraits.

The hike out to Byron Glacier is flat and easy, which makes it a wonderful, unhurried place for a ceremony in front of the ice. Afterward, Whittier itself rounds out the day, with coves to explore, fish and chips, and the chance of spotting wildlife along the water.
